Increasing now so when the budget comes they can say we wont put anything extra on it. Or drop it 1p for 5 minutes before they increase it again.

Was funny a few years back, I forgot it was budget time. One guy filler can after can of fuel, I thought he much have a huge garden or a lot of lawnmowers.

Got home and its budget time, Ahhhh it didnt increase and the price actually dropped just after.

Seen it rising as well, seen diesel at 145.9.

wonder who needs extra money this time, oil company, traders, government?

Managed to fill up today for 130.9 in Leek, Staffordshire. It thought it was a mistake at first (i.e. a zero instead of an 8 on the sign) but it really was 130.9. Tesco 12 miles down the road was 137.9 !

Blame David Cameron and his referendum fetish.

Stupid prat shoots his mouth off about something he wants to do years in the future, pound goes down several cents against the euro, fuel retail price here goes up.

And are you sure it's only 5 pence? Some of the diesel around here seems to be up 6 or 8, though a handful of places aren't as bad.
  • 134.9 for unleaded at local Shell here yesterday. Asda pish 134.7.

Wholesale prices of Brent have gone up from $115bbl to $118bbl since the beginning of the month, and this has been reflected in the cost increase at the pumps.

You could hardly expect the oil firms to cut their margins, like it or not, their raison d'être is first and foremost to make returns for shareholders.

The fact that successive UK governments have squandered the North Sea resources to highest bidder (usually ministers mates) is the reason unlike Norway, or the US, the UK gov has little or no ownership of it's strategic oil reserves.

But it does make a nice buck for shareholders

Surely you mean petrol prices have dropped over the course of the year?

It's cheaper now than what it was 12 months ago. I remember when I got a little scooter for a run around 12 months ago, it cost £10.60 odd to fill her up, it now costs £10.15, and for the majority of last year it was under a tenner a time to fill up.

I thought it was because the OFT had said that there was no fixing of fuel prices even though the independant retailers said they knew it was true. Result?
The whole salers become untouchable and can therefore an just keep edging ti up to maximise their profits
