Great news that blockbuster are still accepting gift cards.
To stop all the problems with vouchers and gift cards, companies should be made to ringfence the money paid for gift cards/vouchers. If a companies goes into administration then we should be allowed to apply for our money back from the ringfenced account.
I have started a epetition on direct.gov.uk to this effect please sign it and start helping us protect consumers

Sincere thoughts go to all Blockbuster staff.
Despite Blockbuster still taking gift cards, for the time being at least, and well done to them for doing so, you'd think people would be dropping vouchers like hot bricks now. Certainly, this latest blow to the High Street should spur everyone to go and spend those vouchers already bought.0 -

Or people could stop idiotically converting bits of paper you can use anywhere in the entire country to bits of paper or plastic that are worth the same amount but only redeemable in one business...0 -

Exactly, I would rather everyone just stopped buying them than have my taxes wasted creating legislation.0 -
I think we all know its the end of the gift voucher (at least for those of us on here). Obviously some folk do like to give vouchers/gift cards rather than cash for whatever reason
Would a happy medium be prepaid (top up type) visa cards? Then those that don't like to give cash can give a 'gift card' that can be used anywhere and it wouldn't matter if XYZ went bust as far as gift cards/vouchers are concerned.
MSE Team, Is this idea worth it in respect of protection(s) etc?
*Personally I prefer cash, I hate getting gift cards for shops I never go to (unless I've received the dreaded voucher/card). £50 for M&S at Xmas.0 -

What do people recommend doing with points accumulated from the online rental service? Should I spend them all now while I can? What about my subscription, I received an e-mail stating the online service would still be operating and to continue as normal but quite frankly, I'd rather pull out and avoid any issues later on if that's deemed best, any advice appreciated.0

I run a CV writing business (unflappable.co if you're interested!)
Over the last week I’ve had people from Jessops, HMV, Blockbuster and Comet submit their CVs for reviews and rewrites.
It is heart breaking to read some of the e-mails from such highly experienced and motivated retail professionals. People who have been given just days to reorganise their whole lives after many years faithful service to companies we all assumed would be around forever.
The uncertainty and shock pervades much of their CVs too, which has led to many underselling themselves or appearing to apologise for their situation. If you’re in this situation, you cannot afford to let this happen! Remember; you are NOT responsible for this.
I just hope that recruiters and employers recognise these candidates for their quality and their professionalism from which we have all benefited for years and take the time to read those few extra CVs they’ll receive.

I'd also like to know this but I guess if they still send the discs out we can just carry on as normal - if the online service closes then no more Direct Debits will be taken and so you might just lose whatever time you had remaining before the next payment.0
