Childcare grant 2011 help!!!!

Can anyone offer any advice on here please, just found out from SFE that I am not entitled to any childcare grant or Parents learning allowance for the accademic year 11/12.

I will be a first year student with a partner and 2 young children and require childcare for the youngest. We have what I feel is quite a low income of about £20,000, they have counted all my outgoings as about £5,500. I have been approved for the maintenance grant and loan but nothing else.

The advisor didn't know why but said there was a not saying I could be re-assessed if i sent in both childrens birth certificates she also said I was over the threshold and we have too much money left (are they kidding). On the online app it said I could send in the child benefit form to prove dependants which I did. Anyone had similar experiences? Without childcare I will not be able to go.

Out of curiosity, are you a single parent, or is your partner working?

If you or your partner are working more than 16 hours a week, you should be able to claim the childcare element of working tax credit. I think that works out at 75% as opposed to 85% from CCG.

Does your account acknowledge receipt of the child benefit certificate? Have they returned it?

I'm pretty sure you can't claim childcare from tax credits unless you are both working 16 hours per week.

Well that's what I was told. I'm a full time student, but my husband works and we can't claim from either source on around the same income as the OP but one child.

Apologies, I stand corrected. I'd forgotten about the both working aspect.

Lea, how old is the child you're requiring childcare for?
