Go here for details of how the refunds and redress work. Ask the bank for a breakdown of their offer in writing:

If you truly believe the Bank would falsely state you don't have PPI,
go through your credit card statements in detail, and look for any mention of an insurance payment. It may be worded as 'payment cover', a 'protection plan', 'ASU', 'card protection', 'card care' or similar.
I'd say it was a pretty safe bet that you haven't got PPI if the Bank have told you that is the case.
  • I recently applied to HSBC for PPI on a current loan that is ending soon.

I used the template on this site and explained that I felt hounded into having PPI as back in 2006 I was really struggling financially.

I had trained and qualified as a nurse in 2001 and from that time to 2006 really struggled to get my finances under control. By 2006 the bank told me this was the last time they were helping me and I had to have PPI or wouldnt get the loan. In total my graduate loan was "rehashed" x 5 with the last in 2006.

I expected that HSBC would just look at the last loan but surprise surprise they took into account ALL of the loans from my training onwards which really goes back a total of over 11yrs! I accepted their offer last week for £12,339.30 which as they state in the letter " this figure will effectively return the protection premiums you have paid along with an element of gross interest" which of course is 8%.

THANK YOU SO MUCH MARTIN! WITHOUT YOU GIVING ME THE COURAGE TO MOVE FORWARDS I NEVER WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED THIS. I have multiple health problems and found everything a bit stressful with applying but you made it very easy and I thought if I dont try I will never know.

To all of you out there wondering if you should apply and if its worth it - GO FOR IT. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose except some time filling out the forms on this site. So glad I didnt use one of those claim firms.

This also has given me the impetus to apply for bank charges refund from back then also as I was in considerable hardship during those years and am currently the only wage earner in the house, struggling to remain in full time work due to severe health issues.

TRULY CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH MARTIN.:j
