    Does not explaining the zero spring balance policy to new customers classify as misselling?

    So the regulator fines them all and then they all put up their prices to recoup the fine. That's really going to teach those nasty energy suppliers a lesson, isn't it?

    You're forgetting the most important part! The fine will be equivalent to 0.1% of their total years profits. Of course they will pass this on to consumer with a 5% increase.

    British Gas came to service my boiler on Monday. As the engineer was getting ready to leave he asked me about not having British Gas as my provider. I told him i'm on a contract elsewhere, but perhaps I should have let him carry on with the conversation to see where it went. Are BG engineers on a commission for any sales leads they generate?

    Actually one of the few impressive things I've spotted from Ofgem is the thing they did recently with EDF where instead of the fine going into the general fund it actually did some good. EDF still claimed (on rather flimsy grounds) that they hadn't been fined.
