Just checked my online banking at FD and all seems ok.

Used debit card earlier at petrol station, no problem.

Opened a regular saver at FD at around 2pm and that seemed to work ok too.

I've not had any problems with FD, I have just logged on and transferred some money to my Tesco Clubcard Plus.

had a UPS delivery which required the duty paying no luck with HSBC card at 1:30pm. Post office at 15:45 was the same declined. Local branch claimed they went down around 15:50 - yeah right!

Possibly because whomever you got your petrol/shopping etc from does not use HSBC directly in a real time manner when you put your card in but is sufficiently large to have it own in-house payment processing centre.........which only later deals direct with HSBC.
All thereby avoiding queues at their tills if HSBC or anyother banks for that matter is 'busy' and therefore avoiding restricting till throughput and hence profits!

This was the first I heard of it. I used my FD ATM card at lunchtime and there was no problem.
