The long and short is all the phone calls to 07822 81 1946 are calls that have been re-routed from a landline number. We never dialed that number, we dialed a standard 0161 number and after so many rings was reconnected to the above mobile(we didnt know that at the time).
No mention of this when making the call and virgin didnt bill use for the 1st one in june until now!!!
I know this feature has been around for a while but thought the person who has the landline pays for the extra bit to the mobile.
(07822 81 1946 is a mobile at tesco where my wife works, they have not been very helpful so far)
any advice?

You are quite correct, you must only be charged for the number YOU dial, not where it is diverted to. The 07822 number is erroneous, as long as you didn't dial it. Interestingly, I'm aware of this code being used for 'cheap' outbound International calls, in that it provides a mechanism to make international calls at a reduced rate, whilst only being charged whatever the mobile rate is for your telco, BUT if you never dialled it - and you can honsetly confirm that a different number was dialled instead, your complaint is with your telco for incorrect billing. The way to check is go to a payphone and call the original 0161 number, if it connects at the standard rate, then Virgin are proved to be at fault.0

The 07822 8 prefix is allocated to Cable & Wireless UK, which is Tesco's provider. Other 07822 x prefixes are allocated to different operators, so the international dialling service you refer to could be hosted by any of them.… The 07822 number is erroneous, as long as you didn't dial it. Er, I didn't say it was an exclusive service on that code, simply that I was aware it was being used for that purpose. however irrespective of what Cable & Wireless are getting up to with their routing, the rules are clear - a customer may only be charged for the outbound number he/she dials, and no other.0
