As they always say if your insurance goes up because of a poor postcode, "you can always move to somewhere cheaper"
I don't want to subsidise a transport system I don't use.0 -
And in the rest of the country, not a care was given.0

This is always a good indication of the real rate of inflation, not that silly basket of fancy imported goods calculator the government use to hoodwink us, this is a multi billion pound company that has to balance its books.
So inflation is 7%Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Red Ken managed to freeze the bus fares at £1 for quite a while. Then Boris came in and removed the congestion charge for his buddies in his old constituencies around Kensington, Chelsea and Notting Hill and has allowed well-above inflation price rises on public transport ever since. There's an obvious solution to this...0

Is anyone else bored of listening to this man?
He constantly 'defends passengers' by slating the TFL etc for increasing fares yet orders drivers to strike so he can blackmail TFL for pay increases.
YOU Mr Crow are yourself partly to blame for this. You accuse TFL of wasting money whilst taking more and more of it and repeatedly prevent them from making redundancies, closing unused ticket offices and firing otherwise unemployable wasters.
Why don't you go out and get a proper job, pay a large proportion of your salary into the public transport system like the majority of people commuting to & from (or within) London and see if you still sing the same tune.0 -

Lovely news... NOT!
I have to ask though, is TfL subsidized from the central government (or GLA, or other local authority) or it's only income are the fares payed? You wanna hear about my new obsession?
I'm riding high upon a deep recession...0 -

Uhh, the fares increase is calculated BASED ON that "silly basket of fancy imported goods" (otherwise known as RPI). If the silly basket gets more expensive, then your fares go up by 2% MORE than the basket.
If you're talking about the rate of inflation that affects YOU, then you need to work things out properly. For example, 5 years ago 4 pints of milk cost £1.11 in Sainsbury's. Now it costs £1 in ASDA, so that's deflation for me.Zorz wrote:I have to ask though, is TfL subsidized from the central government (or GLA, or other local authority) or it's only income are the fares payed?
Of course it's subsidised. I think the majority of its funding is from the DofT.mikey72 wrote:I don't want to subsidise a transport system I don't use.
You'll have to leave the UK then.0 -

No, that's "Asda price"You'll have to leave the UK then.
Why, did I miss a vote on it or it is some form of new immigration test?0 -

OK fine, it was £1 in sainsbury's until August, but asda is still doing the promotionWhy, did I miss a vote on it or it is some form of new immigration test?
well, if you pay tax here, you're subsidising TfL as well as rail across the country. And did you not read up the transport section of the various parties' manifestos before voting in the last GE?0
