My OH just paid her balance off and closed her account - will surely turn out a mess.

Had been looking at the possibility of getting a Barclaycard for a 0% purchases offer over the past few months. Seems I might be getting a Barclaycard anyway now.

My limit is only £500 (which I requested) I use it for a £50 purchase each month and always pay the full amount each month.

Sadly this might eventually also mean the end to the ability to put the account into credit, which can be very useful at times.

Had an Egg VISA card a few years ago. Cancelled it in disgust at Egg's appalling treatment of me when I was ripped off by a retailer and needed to do a chargeback.

    Bye Egg. Won't miss you!

I have to say that I will miss egg. I have been them since day 1. Have no idea how much cashback I have had over the years (£180 this year) and have never paid a penny in interest. Have always found customer services very good and they do monitor the account and check transactions if they appear dodgy.
I hope the staff in Derby well and hope they are redeployed to other areas of the business as I suspect Barclaycard arnt taking the staff as well. I have moved my main card to Halifax clarity reward to get £5 a month cashback in anticipation of barclaycard slashing and burning all of the egg benefits.

I've always had amazing customer service from Egg. The cashback deal has been great and the other various offers over the year have been useful too.

I'm really disappointed with this takeover. My plan is to see how it pans out but I anticipate having to close it this year. I'm not sure I want to be a Barclays customer.

    Hi
Does anyone know if customers who have a card with an outstanding balance will be made to pay it all back or will it just roll over to Barclays and then continue paying them?
    Thanks!

You will be able to pay down an existing balance according to the current terms.
You won't have to pay it back in one go.
But you may not get a new card on which to put new spending, there is no guarantee that everyone will get a new card.

    From the Egg website:

Barclays has bought all of our credit card accounts. We anticipate that by May 2011, you will become a Barclaycard customer and you will receive a new Barclaycard later this year. As we get closer to transferring your account, Barclaycard will be in contact with you. Until then nothing will change as a result of the sale - Egg will continue to manage your account in accordance with your current terms and conditions, relevant regulations and prudent lending principles.

We will work closely with Barclaycard to ensure a smooth transition.
