If these numbers were a surprise, to the informed experts, then perhaps those experts are clueless when making accurate predictions about GDP. Those that commentate on the GDP projections of experts are probably even more clueless. I Include myself.

On a future slow news day this GDP figure may be reported as moving up or down as it was just a preliminary estimate based on 40% of the total data that will later become available.0 -
GDP figures include government spending. Even with the planned cuts, the government is likely to continue to be the biggest spender in our economy.
I run a small online retail business. Sales are steady, but they're far short of the ambitions I had when I started. Retail figures across the industry were down last month. Bankers and lawyers are doing deals, I know, but these are primarily restructuring. When was the last big float, for example?
We need to get back to making stuff and selling stuff. You can't make money and grow the economy simply by cutting your outgoings.0
