    A few comments...

    1. Does an increase in demand for £5 suggest an element of deflation in the economy? Or is it simply an indication of the tough times we are living in?

    2. I think it's about time the five pound note was replaced by a five pound coin. Fivers really annoy me.

    3. "By clearly labelling the £5 dispensing machines and increasing their number to almost four hundred, the vast majority of customers across England and Wales will now have easy access to good quality £5 notes." 400 across England and Wales? That's about 6 per county. Hardly going to be easy access for the vast majority, is it?

I would rather have £5 notes than £10. If I am buying something over £10 its usually with my debit card.
In NZ $10 is worth roughly £5 and it's our most common note.

PS. Coins are a pain in the a%^e, I'd rather the UK move to plastic notes vs paper ones if wear and tear is an issue.

I'm ok with £10 notes, some £5 notes would be nice though.

I hate it when I'm just given £20 notes, which often happens. Vendors give you the hard stare when you're just buying a paper/something cheap with a £20, plus it's ideal for someone who's out to short change you.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I hate coins!! Bring back £1 notes! :D

Seriously though, I always get a bunch of fivers if I'm near the cash machine at Waterloo Station that gives them out. So often when I'm out spending money I get scowls if I try and pay with a £10 or a £20 note. Plus fivers make me feel richer because I have a bigger wad of cash in my pocket
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I think £5 notes from cash machines are a good idea as small shops only accept card over a fiver. plastic notes would be stupid. bank of england notes are the best and strongest as they are made out of cotton fibre and linen rag. I hate when people scrumple up banknotes. wallets do have uses.http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/about/production.htm

I'm very lucky to have a £5 dispensing HSBC cashpoint right by the bus stop I use to get to work. Absolutely perfect. Been there ~ 6 months.

Every tried to give a bus driver a £10 or £20 note? Yeah. You'll be walking.

I like £5 notes. Coinage sucks. Every evening I empty all coins bar £1 and £2 from my wallet into my jar. Small change is pretty pointless IMHO.

Let's hope they put £5 notes that are in reasonably good condition in the ATMs.

Oh they are. All of the £5 notes I've got from the HSBC cashpoint in the high street are beautiful!

They feel like they've come straight from the printing press :D

  • hsbc really annoyed me the other day. tried to finish opening the account in branch as nothing had happened. spoke to 3 people on the phone and they knew nothing!! I had to wait 1 hour and 25 minutes. people got served in front of me because of them being hsbc premiere customers. anyway my birth certificate is no use to them (im under 18) as it was issued in germany even though i've got two, a german one and a british one(registered at british embassy).family are completely british yet still were'nt happy. I was told in order to open an account I had to get a nhs medical card or passport(mines expired). I was just not at all happy with the service. so much for "worlds" local bank. I've opened accounts with many different banks over the past 5 years and not had a single problem. all the managers thanked me for bringing so much identification along which made it EASY to open the accounts. so much for good customer service. im just going to renew my passport tomorrow and get a nhs medical card aswell. I also showed a pass card, ehic and a visa. still no good. sorry for ranting so much.
