Feeling guilty

I received a top on ebay that was in bad condition and I considered it to be unwearable, I sent an email to the seller who very kindly refunded my money, I'd asked for their address to return the item and they said not to bother, I feel pretty bad though as they are out of pocket.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes and I have done the same to my buyers. Sometimes if a mistake is made on cheap items your better off making a small loss and keeping the goodwill and a possible returning customer.

Likewise sometimes it just isn;t worth a seller paying to get something back.

  • Depends on how genuine the buyer is. Ive had buyers before say an item had a mark on it. In that case I get the buyer to post it back to me. I pay for their return postage costs and give them a full refund. Very often buyer goes quiet as they were trying it on.

If the item isnt worth returning then I just give a full refund and tell them to keep it. Its a lot less hassle!

I was happy to pay postage to return it, I hate having to throw things out so put it into a clothes bin.

Maybe send them a card in the post or some flowers to say thanks?

I once sold a book and it somehow got damaged.

By the looks of the photo the buyer may have ripped open the package and took out the cover with it, either that or the postie attempted to open the package.

Had no choice but to give him a refund and it would have been no good giving it back to me as the postage costs would have been more than the item.

Why bother? Seller obviously knew they sold shoddy goods and don't want the shoddy goods back.

LOL. Can't see the logic in spending £30 with interflora to thank someone for not making you spend £2 returning an unwearable top!

Yes this has happened to me before. I ordered some fabric and recieved a different one to what I ordered. I told seller and they sent me a refund saying the one I ordered was out of stock (I guess they were hoping I wouldn't notice the difference?). I asked where to return it and they said don't bother. Like a PP said sometimes the value of the item makes it not worth returning.

If it was in such poor condition as to be "unwearable", I certainly wouldn't say that the Seller "very kindly" refunded the money - it was the very least that they could do.

You must be a much nicer person than me, because I'd be thinking of leaving Negative (or at least Neutral) feedback. I have had too many items recently that were not as described, and I strongly suspect that most of them were from Sellers who were trying it on.
