I got an instant report through equifax via their 30 day free trial but now cannot get through on their 5p/minute phoneline to cancel my account - will try again tomorrow.

No negative feedback about Call Credit? Really? Those guys are the biggest bunch of incompetent shysters out there. I haven't applied for my statutory report, but I am 4 days into my 30-day free trial and have yet to gain access to any part of their system. (They claimed that they would send out a PIN to grant me access within 1-2 working days, but it's now 3 days and counting.) At this rate, my 30-day trial will be up before I get to see my report.

Also, however bad it may be to get stuck on an 0844 number, it is not possible to contact Call Credit by telephone *at all*: they're strictly email/post only. (And don't expect them to respond to email within a fortnight: they took 15 days to answer my last message.)

If it wasn't for this site confirming their legitimacy, I would have assumed that they were a scam.

    QC

P.S. That's not to say Experian is much better: you have to lie to them (saying that you are a victim of ID fraud and need urgent assistance) if you want to talk to them by phone. Only when you've done that do they reveal a number you can use to speak to them honestly.

The whole credit reference industry makes me feel angry and sad: have we, as a species, not managed to evolve past nonsense like this?

    *shakes head*

P.P.S. In case it helps anyone, *do not* call Experian on 0844 481 8000 (the number they give for complaints) unless you've been a victim of ID fraud; you'll only waste your money. (All other options lead you to a recorded voice telling you their email and postal addresses.) The number you really want (if there's a problem with your report) is 0844 481 0800. Expensive, yes, but at least you get to speak to someone.

There certainly was no delay in debiting my card with the £2 fee.

    From the article ...
"A statutory credit report is a snapshot of your credit file on the day you order it. They are free for ID fraud victims and the financially vulnerable."

Anyone know what "financially vulnerable" means in this context?

No idea how this is defined - but I certainly would not want a credit report company recording that I claimed to be financially vulnerable !

Equifax have now declined my cashback with Quidco and I still haven't managed to cancel my subscription. Starting to look to me like they are a bit of a dodgy company...

    Hi everyone,

really chuffed after reading the latest news, it has saved me money. I have been with credit expert ( experian ) since november 2007. I had the same problems as most of you. It startled me as it stated £7.99 fee, i used to be charged £6.95 so i rang them ( 0800 5610083 ).

They assuured me it was still £6.95, so i gave them the complaints already stated here plus other issues and queries that i have rang them about before. I also complained that the fee especially when you take into account the £5.95 fee, esp when Barclays offered me the whole package for around £60.00 a year. I also told her that this was being discussed on this website, back me up.

She spoke to her manager and he said i could have a new monthly d.d for £3.49 instead of £ 6.95. This is to be fixed for one year, but apparently this does not apply to everyone. Give it ago, be lucky and save some money.

Let me know how you get on

Just tried ordering my £2 report on Equifax. Didn't work and asked me to phone some number (0844 I think). Phoned and was told to submit a copy of my driving licence and bank statement online. Have just done this and am waiting to see how quickly they verify these details.

Security is really poor on Experian. I was able to change my username twice and get straight into my file. No email received to click the link. Also when asked for my unique word, it's accompanied with the reminder. Anyone who knows me could have got in. Cancelled it a bit sharpish.

Just tried to apply for my stat. report from equifax website, to receive in the post. After I pressed submit website froze for 10mins, then tells me the website is busy. It gave be a link to retry but warned me that since it didn't know if the 1st attempt had succeeded, I might be charged twice! So I refused and will have to wait and see if it comes.
