I went to the Corinthia Hotel for Above & Beyond, a show by immersive theatre specialists Look Left, Look Right, the winners of this year's Artist in Residence programme. The show takes place throughout the fully operational Corinthia Hotel and was created whilst Artistic Director Mimi Poskitt and writers Katie Lyons and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm where holed up at the hotel for two months, observing, thinking and writing.
8.27pm and it was time for me to start… I felt an icy chill when Mimi Poskitt wished me luck (why do I need luck?) and Morgan Lloyd Malcolm told me to 'let go' (which made me super tense). But let go I did and I loved it. I won't spill the beans, the surprises are too fun and magical. But suffice to say, this is my kind of theatre. Maybe breaking through theatre's fourth wall and being the protagonist of the show is the key? Maybe I'm a wannabe leading lady at heart? Whatever it might be, this is a super efficient, classy, 'let's pretend' game full of unexpected meaning and magic, that left me both bewildered and more aware of myself. If you can get your mitts on a ticket, take a deep breath and do it.
