Inconsiderate flat above neighbours have pushed me too far now!!!!

Just needed to get this out as I am at screaming point,

I know it's Saturday night, but at 12noon this afternoon my neighbour upstairs put on her stereo. I didn't complain as its the afternoon and If I'm cleaning I put on a bit of music too. Went out for a couple of hours to do some shopping, return and it's still going (8pm).... I've held off going up and complaining as I don't want a tense relationship with my neighbour and it is Saturday.

I've heard them moving about all evening.

At 1am, I've Knocked on there door as it is now louder and on repeat....

Nobody's in!!!!!!! I'm ready to smash down the door and rip her stereo apart!!!

I plan on having a stern word with her tomorrow, as even of she rolls in at 3am her drunk and me angry is going to get far too risky. I'm ready to punch her lights out.

I've been the most considerate neighbour, even giving her my number so if my dog is getting on her nerves or whining when I'm at work she can let me know and I'll come and sort it out. Never had a call from her.

What do you suggest I should do? I'm trying my hardest to plan my approach in a calm yet stern way so she stops taking the P, but it's hard.

I know I'm probably more sensitive to it now because it's gone on for over 13 hours now, but surely, I have the right to be angry about it?

Some suggestions on how you would approach this situation would e great. In currently planning on giving her a visit tomorrow and asking her to keep it down and telling we that what's going on tonight is not acceptable.

Other ideas are: write her a stern letter
Complain to landlord (although landlords rubbish so I doubt much will happen....)
Call the council about it
Send her round some flowers with a bag anthrax?

Ideas please!

For now, have you got some earplugs? I'm in a similar boat at the moment and there isn't much you can do this hour. Just make a note and inform whoever needs telling ie landlord or local authority Monday morning - and keep a diary of events!

You could try calling the police, but i'm not sure if they would come out.

Ring the police, tell them you are concerned that the neighbour has collapsed - you heard them moving about, then they put the music on, now you cannot hear them move and they are not answering the door. And you did not hear them leave.

I'd call the council. They will have a designated noise team who will visit a few times to take notes and this they do until they have a strong enough case to take action which could lead eventually to the person having to move out. I've had this sort of issue with a neighbour in the past, it can help if other neighbours are also complaining, have you asked if any others can hear the noise?

Keep a diary of what happens, what time what the problem is and how long it lasts for, if your worried about your safety don't visit, your health is more important.

Hope the stereo did eventually get switched off, OP.

If the upstairs neighbour is renting there would, I think, be a clause in the contract about noise and being a nuisance to neighbours, in which case it would be worth registering a comment with the landlord or agency.

However, if the landlord doesn't want to know (some of them couldn't care less, as long as they're getting the rent money) you can involve the Police, Environmental Health, or just go round there and have a word with them yourself, if you feel able to do that.

You have my sympathies, - we used to get this all the time when we lived in the city centre.

Banging at 3am as she was coming in! Obviously quite drunk. Turned the stereo off straight away.

Looks like she actually went out leaving it on.

I'm going to go an have a chat with her today about being a considerate neighbour and I'm also going to ask for a telephone number so if it happens again I can get in touch with her. If she doesn't want too give me a number I'll make her aware that I will have no choice but to involve the landlord. Thank goodness it was Saturday. If it had been mid-week I think I may of put a widow through!

Keep notes for the landlord and local council. You cannot call the police unless it's like 4am or something. She may technically be causing a breach of the peace (certainly in Scotland). The police would grade the call a 3 (meaning it's not important, but they'll respond when they have dealt with more important jobs).

I'm glad I live in the country, I would certainly go mad if I had to put up with it!

I have a lot of respect for the police and I really didn't want to call them out on a Saturday night just for noise. Yes it's annoying, but luckily I didn't have work the next day and a late night wouldnt of killed me. I'd hate to take them away from someone in danger just because I can't get to sleep.

I'm waiting for the lazy unemployed woman to wake up before I give her a visit. I'm concentrating on my 'zen' state of mind

It's very kind of you to wait until she wakes up, given that she's kept you awake for most of the night!

I've heard of people leaving a radio on when they go out (to give would-be burglars the impression that someone's in), but not so loud that the person on the floor below can hear it..

I wish! My neighbours called the police out well before 1am on my DDs 18th, AND they came.

The neighbours still not up.... Maybe she's choked on her own vomit!

My last neighbour came home from a heavy night out and had lost his keys, so decided to kick his own front door in at 4am. Me and the boyfriend went up the hill to find out what was going on and his door was smashed in. Called the police thinking someone had broken in, for the police to find my neighbour chucking up in his toilet within a joint in his hand xD!!

The ones before this one were illigal immigrants and had about 15 people living in there. The noise was so bad at all times of day. It sounded like elephants. Eventually complained to the landlord who thought it was a single female aged 30 in there only.... They all swiftly moved out and took the radiators with them.

Woman before that had the hearing of a hawk. She claimed that my cough was keeping her awake xD needless to say, she got told where to go and then moved out. She was from Liverpool and her laugh was the most annoying thing in the world.

Why don't NORMAL people rent flats? Even the guy whos lived in the flat next to me is a DJ who loves heavy carribian music! LOUD!

Although Bob Marley isn't an awful tune to wake upto on a Sunday....

Argh!! Can't wait to live in my own house! Nobody will be allowed upstairs! Ever! Haha!
