MSE is just huge and probably there is much information already on it - but where to look?
I thought it might be an idea to have a board aimed at supporting those specifially those who are disabled AND those who care for a disabled person.
Things it could include are -
What does it mean being registered disabled? How to be registered disabled. And all that that may entail.
What is a registered disabled person entitled to, not just in terms of benefits but in terms of alterations to their home. How do they go about getting those alterations. Any tax implications?
Parents caring for a disabled child - are there additional things for either the parent and/or the child?
Children (of school age) who care for a disabled parent? Who supports them? What can they get?
Carers - what financial and other support is available to carers? Who is a carer?
Transport issues - What is Dial A Ride? What areas provide it - where can you go? How much does it cost?
How do things available for a registered disabled person differ from things available to an elderly person? What if that elderly person is also disabled? What can they get?
Utilites - what is available in term of discounts and how do you get registered fror priority connection in the event of power cuts. (Vital for those on home dialysis).
What charities and churches offer any practical help?
Being registered blind - what does that mean? What can you get to make your life better/easier? How do you get a guide dog?
Holidays - in the UK or abroad? What companies offer helpers to travel with a single person? Do any? Do disabled people pay more? Why?
Employment issues.
Ill health pensions? Compensation for injuries?
So many questions and no doubt lots more - no doubt lots of answers already somewhere in MSE.
A dedicated board might help bring it all under one roof.

All of the information is pretty much covered already, in particular there is lots of information on the Benefits board about financial assistance, and people always willing to answer any new questions.
There is actually no official register of disabled people, and the definition of what disabled means varies according to what it is that you are referring to (e.g. DDA, DLA, IB etc).
The problem with having a separate board is that a lot of posts could be missed (or there could be lots of double posts). For instance, if someone asks a benefits question on the Disabled board, it may not get picked up by someone that usually focuses on the Benefits board. The same could apply to issues regarding employment and travel also.Gone ... or have I?0
