am i entitled to any other benefits

am i entitled to any other benefits?
hi there, I wonder if you coule push me into the right direction. now that I have been awarded DLA, i can think about moving into a more managable property. I am currectly living in a property that i cannot manage (its on 3 floors). I am looking at private renting a 2 bedroom bungalow, as i sometimes require help during the night and a family member sometimes needs to stay with me. At the moment the Housing benefit are currently paying £340 per month but my rent is £450. I 2 bedroom ground floor property is going to cost aprox £550 per month. would I be entiltled to any further financial help because Ive now been awarded DLA, ie help with furnashing costs, energy costs etc. Thanks again.

Im not sure but I think that is what the DLA is for, the extra cost of day to day living, you might have to use that to pay for the shortful in rent if you take on the 2 bedroom property, could you not rent a 1 bedroom and the family member sleep on the sofa or a camp bed ?

The system now used is LHA not Housing Benefit, rates of what they will pay has changed in many areas.

You could apply for DHPs http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/advice_topics/paying_for_a_home/housing_benefit_and_local_housing_allowance/discretionary_housing_payments but these aren't guaranteed, they come out of a fund that when it's gone it's gone and there is no right of appeal when a decision is made. Make sure you tell them people are staying over as this might effect you entitlement. I've known them pay up to £30 extra in some cases from the DHP fund.

Contact your local council about any second hand furniture scheme they do, some do, some don't. No people on DLA don't get help with utilities etc.
One day I might be more organised...........
