Where is my money?

I have a current account with a UK High St bank and hold a credit card with a different UK High St bank. I use internet banking to pay my credit card bill using my current account. Usually the day after the debit appears on my current account the credit appears on my credit card bill. This month this has not happened. The money has been debited from my current account and has not yet been credited to my credit card (although I am still within the x working days time they say to allow the transfer to happen).
My question is....where is my money right now? I can understand how (in the days before electronic transfers) a cheque could take time to clear....however with the technology available now surely the money should either be in one account or the other? As for the allowing x working days for the transfer to occur...surely this must be a completely automated process? Computers don't take weekends????
Can anyone enlighten me please?
