Holidays?

I've just been reading on another website that you can claim for holidays on your SOA.

Can anyone confirm? This wasn't mentioned during my OR interview and is definitely NOT on the list

It's not something that is always allowed.

Often depends on how tightly you have already budgeted. Don't assume that it will be allowed.
    Holidays

Previous guidance stated that an allowance for holidays should not be included in the calculation of funds available for an income payments contribution, other than in exceptional circumstances, for example where a dependant was sick or disabled. Whilst extravagance is not endorsed in this respect, it may be considered a reasonable domestic need to allow the bankrupt and his/her family to benefit from a non-extravagant holiday as a break from routine. Expensive or luxury holidays (particularly if the holiday is abroad) are likely to cause offence to creditors but an allowance of between £60-£80 per month (amounting to £720-£960 per annum) for a household of 4 people should allow the bankrupt and his/her family sufficient funds to take a moderate annual holiday. Should the bankrupt consider this allowance insufficient to fund a holiday, he/she should be informed that any additional holiday cost that he/she may wish to incur must be funded from the amount of surplus income left with him/her after deduction of the assessed IPA/IPO contribution.

    Hi Nancy,
It does say somewhere in the Insolvency Service guidelines that you "may" be able to allow a small amount for modest holidays. Don't know what the figure would be though- I think its at their discretion if your'e allowed it or not.
My OR never mentionned it when he went through my I&E, and to be honest I don't think I would have had the nerve to even broach the subject.

Mmmm! It's a mine field isn't it? Particularly as the 'official,' list is so short. Surely the whole thing needs to be standardised, rather than reliant as to whether the OR had a fight with his wife or not.

I've been making lists trying to pull back the £164 surplus but what with allowing petrol, insurance etc when in theory I won't have a car, I suppose is generous. Plus with my figures I finished up with MORE!!!!

I went shopping today for the last time in this car and that felt very strange, but my daughter is looking for a runabout so I won't be carless.

Must admit I felt a touch depressed. Maybe it was the hellish week and lack of sleep. Got myself some Kalms and a pile of secondhand books.

There is life after BR isn't there? It's just a case of adjusting and adapting and beginning again.

I feel sadness. I feel relief but I don't feel shame. It can happen to anyone and has to the best people and anyone who says otherwise shouldn't be on here.

  • Yes Nancy, there is life after BR, and it can be quite a good life.

By good i mean the slightly smug feeling you get from paying for things by cash, grabbing great bargains and surviving where others can't.

I've loved loseing my car ( i gave it up long before BR as i knew i couldn't afford it) i'm fitter, healthier and greener. I shop local only and have enough food in to keep us going, not enough to feed the street. theres little or no waste of food, its all much fresher and i'm not lining Terry Leahy bulging pockets:rolleyes:

Friends and family are always eager to rush in and help out with little journeys.

You 'learn' to cope and really do get pleasure out of the smallest things.

Sometimes you have to go 'down' to go back 'up' again.:D

Enjoy your books and take pleasure from the simple things.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Thanks I will. When I think of how long I've battled to keep going and only pride stopped me, I could weep.

But for anyone contemplating it and reading these messages,we've all been through it and come out the other side.....pride in tact!
