Hi there i bought win tv after seeing a deal on this site but would now like to edit the mpeg files that i have recorded using it. I have a few tv shows etc.. in mpeg format in one big file nearly 2 gb. I went to seperate them into the individual shows and get rid of adverts (i hate that crazy frog!). I've tried an mpeg splitter but that just split it into even size files and not how i wanted it!! I also tried virtualdub but had no luck either.
so can anyone recommend a program that will allow me to split up mpegs where i want???
hope some1 can help
thanks

http://www.tucows.com/preview/294130 - no idea if it's any good but tucows offers a few free options - it also has the nice function that once you've searched for something you can then simply filter the results to show the free ones"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0

You could try TMPGEnc v2.524 available here. It allows splitting/merging, etc and you can choose the start and end points. It may not be the most user friendly. TMPGEnc is well-known for its encoding capabilities.0

I've not tried many of the editors mentioned, but a lot of the ones I've tried tend to produce audio/video sync errors when editing MPEG-2 files like from a DVB (Freeview) card. The best editor I've found is Video Redo, this doesn't re-encode the files, and therefore keeps it in sync.
Also, ProjectX is quite good - although its quite complicated to use, again, it doesn't re-encode, so keeps the sync ok.

You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.0

You can of course do this in Windows Movie Maker, import it then
cut it about like BBFC regulator on acid, and insert more transitions than
a Channel 4 advert.0 -
Hi thanks to everyone, have tried all the programs sugested, and thanks to you all again.
A quick summary for anyone looking to do the same:
sheraz and poppycat both suggested easy video splitter - very easy to use but like JonnyF mentions it does reconfigure the file no loss of qualtiy though like movie maker and i haven't had any sync problems, best reconfiguring one... movie maker fun to use can do interesting things with it eg. titles effects but i have had problems with it. tucows is used for splitting into equal parts or size. TMPGEnc v2.524 looks complicated and i don't think i used it to its maximum potential, take a while and does reduce quality, but good all the same.
i would go with those used by jonnyf though.0
