Thanks for that.
I wonder if they are going to mention it in the next bill so they give us notice or if they'll do what most other companies do and that not bother?
I must remember to change our diallers to dial the freephone number (assuming its in the carrier list) for when we dial 191 or any number beginning 118x.0 -
I used to be with One Tel but have changed to Toucan. I get the same service - dial up internet at any time, free weekend calls and 2p/minute calls at other times (although I do us 18866) for £9.99/month instead of £13.99/month. £48 per year is worth having.0

I forgot to mention.....
Re Dir Enq - this was how Orchid set it up for me:
a) Under "Carrier" drop down list find: "08000192190 - Free Dir Enq" - save this, and it becomes, say, No. "5" carrier.
b) Under "Routing" drop down list find: "118*1*9 - 118 DQ Trans" ...give this Attribute "T" - save for all times for Carrier routing "5" (see a) above)
c) Under "Routing" drop down list find "192 - 192 Translation"....give this attribute "T" - save for all times for Carrier routing "5" (see a) above)
The effect of all this is that if anyone either dials 192 (if they are old enough to remember!!) or 118..something... something ...something it will always get routed through to the freephone 08000192190 number
Hope this helps....0 -
This is just a reminder that OneTel's free DQ service will no longer be free from the end of this month.
From the 31st October, Onetel's 118111 UK Directory Enquiries Service will be subject to a connection fee of 20p and then 10p per minute thereafter.
As far as I'm aware we can still use the free DQ service 0800 0192 190.
The link provided by pricefighter has now changed due to OneTel's redesign of their website. See here for more info.
Has anyone been informed of the new charge for OneTel's DQ service because I know we haven't?
Update:
Ironically, it could actually be cheaper ringing OneTel's DQ service after first routing call via BT using override code 1280 because it will be charged at 35p per call but dialling from your OneTel account will be 20p connection fee with 10ppm thereafter!
So for a straight-forward DQ search lasting under a minute then it's cheaper ringing from a OneTel registered line but for any DQ call over a minute then it's cheaper having it billed by BT instead of OneTel.0 -
Kev. my link still works, and so does 0800 0192 190.

If you look at the website address in your browser after you click on your link it displays, "http://www.onetel.co.uk/?404=1". A 404 error is a webpage doesn't exist but instead of displaying an error message, OneTel instead defaults back to their homepage.
Eg,
Your link (above) is: "http://www.onetel.co.uk/index.php.?node=landline" but after clicking on it, it then changes to "http://www.onetel.co.uk/?404=1" because it couldn't find the webpage as originally posted which I've assumed is because they have a new-look website and some webpages were probably changed.
Thanks for verifying the 0800 still works as I wasn't sure if still would now. I'm going to update my dialler this week sometime so as to dial the freephone number instead of OneTel's DQ service.
Thanks again - especially for pointing this out originally as I wouldn't have known about it until it appeared on our bill because they obviously can't be bothered informing their customers.0 -

Dear
Thank you for your recent e-mail.
I would like to inform you that our Onetel Directory Enquiry number 118111 is free for all Onetel Customers from their registered telephone number.
However, please be informed that from 31st October 2005, calls to this number will no longer be free. However, the cost to this number would be just 10p per minute with a 20p connection fee from the customer’s Onetel registered landline or mobile. The price to non-Onetel and Onetel Business customers will remain at 35p per call.
Despite the price change, 118111 will remain one of the cheapest UK Directory Enquiry services, less than half the price of BT 118500 and cheaper than both 118118 and 118888.
Onetel also provides great value International Directory Enquiries, simply dial 118 211. Calls are charged at £1.50 per minute.
If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us, our E-mail Team would be happy to help. Alternatively you can visit our Virtual Customer Service Centre.
Thank you for choosing Onetel.
Regards,
Shannon Rodrigues

I never got any notice but I bet you if I were to query the change, I'd also get the same email as you.
It appears to be common these days for companies to "forget" to inform you of price rises. There is this one from OneTel and the 0844 price increase they had. BT have apparently risen their call charge from 1ppm to 3ppm after the first hour of an evening & weekend. Oh and the Call18866 price increase!
I'm so glad good customer services comes first for these companies! :rotfl:0
