Hired Carpet Cleaners

Options
I want to clean my hall carpet and want to know has anyone ever hired a carpet cleaner? Are they any good, how long does it take to do and dry and what's the best one to hire?

I have an old dog (15) with kidney problems and so have recently acquired a few extra stains on the carpet :o . We will be renewing the carpet when he is with us no more _pale_ but until then I just want to clean it. I think that will be the least disturbance for him.

Any info will be great.

Thanks.

  • Hi,

It can take days to dry out and be prepared as when you have them cleaned all of the smells from the accidents that your dog has had will normally be in the atmosphere for a few days. This can smell horrible!

You should not dry the carpets out too quickly as thay can shrink!

    Hope this helps

we hired a RugDoctor cleaner from homebase. Johnson's the cleaners also do them. it was £13.99 plus the cost of the detergent, which is on sale beside the cleaners.

We found it to be very good. Carpets were dry by the next day.Make sure you buy some defoamer with it if you clean a carpet previously cleaned.

Although we don't have pets, there was some other detergent to do with pet smells I think on sale

i recently hired a cleaner from hss and it was pretty good, took about a day to dry out, have a bit of stale water smell but opening the windows eventually cured that.
    ummm...
  • I borrowed a hire machine once, then I bought a vax-that was HARD work-now I am a very proud owner of a Bissel carpet shampooer. It is the turboheat type which costs approx £199. Ive 3 kids and a longhaired dog so I considered it a good investment as I can shampoo just a portion of the carpet if needed and not have to do the whole room to get my moneys worth. Maybe you could invest in one with a relative? split the cost and share it?

I have used a bissel one (the ones you see advertised in the back of sunday paper magazines) previously, borrowed from my parents, carpet comes up looking great but a week or so later the old stains start to appear again. Might give an industrial one a try from a hire shop to see if it can deep clean the carpert.
  • From my experience, the RugDoctor from Homebase is nowhere as good as Vax.
