Is the Icesave site down? As of 13:00 on April 30th I'm getting an Easynet holding page showing:confused:

yeah it is down again now, does anyone know what is wrong with the site?
  • Technical problems according to very pleasant CSA. They have been told it should be fixed later today. Meanwhile there is a temporary website - ww1.icesave.co.uk (note only 2 ww then 1 without a dot)

Perhaps T'Pau and Goldfinger have started a stampede? :D
Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.

Is ww1.icesave.co.uk a trusted site, i.e. Icesave's genuine address? I'm worried in case I'm redirected to a spoof site. 20:22: still can't log in to https://www.icesave.co.uk.

I've just checked my account from the ww1 and it's all good.

It correctly remembered login details and validated my security details after I tried to give it wrong details a couple of times to check it wasn't a spoof.

Doesn't look like any cause for concern.

Because Icesave control the address icesave.co.uk, they also control any address of the form something.icesave.co.uk, so you immediately know that ww1.icesave.co.uk should be a valid address.

The actual online banking server is online.icesave.co.uk, I assume from the fact it wasn't affected they have rather sensibly got this hosted on a separate system from the pretty main site. So if you're visiting online.icesave.co.uk you are probably safe (*).

Obviously there is no harm in being cautious, but thought it was worth clarifying.

(*) The only possible attack I can think of would have been if they had gained control over the DNS records, but this attack is ridiculously unlikely to occur/succeed, and if it did occur, there wouldn't be any silly visible problems with the main site
  • Thanks to all for your help! Now able to login to Icesave and will remember the w1 address for future problems with main site. :j
