What's this about?
If you’re looking for cheap ways to distract the kids this Bank Holiday, here’s our round-up of the best MoneySaving jollies. There are a whole bunch of bargain outings on offer, from the Alton Towers to zoos to the National Trust.
IMPORTANT: We've done our best to check that all the deals are available on the Bank Holiday, but these deals can vary so always double check directly before heading off.
There’s no excuse to pay full price at for any Tussauds Group attraction (Alton Towers, Chessington, Madam Tussauds etc). There are various offers entitling you to a free adult or child ticket, when you buy a full price adult ticket. Tickets can cost up to £34, so it's a substantial saving.
The attractions on offer are:
Alton Towers Resort, Chessington World of Adventures & Zoo, Thorpe Park, Legoland, Warwick Castle, Madame Tussauds, the Dungeons, and Sea Life centres.
How to get 'em.
PS. Thanks to all moneysavers who suggested any of the items included...

2for1 Alton Towers, Chessington and Madam Tussauds & more
There’s no excuse to pay full price at for any Tussauds Group attraction (Alton Towers, Chessington, Madam Tussauds etc).
- From Sky. All Sky customers can print the vouchers directly off its site. Offer ends 31 May. Print Sky 2 for 1 voucher
- From Tetley Tea: Pick up a promotional pack of Tetley Tea (the cheapest is about £1.50) and you get a 2 for 1 voucher which can be used at all Tussauds attractions. Read the Full post about this offer.
Other days out offers
- 2 for 1 at Zoos/Aquariums nationwide with Kelloggs.
The breakfast giant is giving away 2for1 Zoo/Aquarium tickets on special 'Zookeeper' branded packs of cereal. To claim you just need to type a code into the Kelloggs website.
Important Note: This voucher is not valid on bank holidays, so you’ll only be able to use it on the Bank holiday Sat or Sun.
Read the full details about this cheap zoos offer.
- 'Brit trips' with Walkers Crisps.
Collect Walkers crisp packets for money off/1/2 price, or even free entry to a whole range of days out locations in the UK. Offers include the National Trust and CitySightseeing buses. The terms and conditions vary for each individual attraction; read the "More Info & Terms" section on each of the trip/offer pages to check when it’s valid. Read the full post about this offer.
- 2for1 Entry at Go Ape.
Tarzan-style theme park company Go Ape! is currently offering 2 for 1 at three of its sites: Wendover Woods until 2 May, Leeds Castle until 23 May, and Haldon Forest Park until 23 July. The aim is to swing your way through the trees using ropes and zip wires. Normal prices are £25 for adults and £20 for kids. To book, call 0845 643 9215 (£1 telephone booking fee applies).
London & the South East offers
- London 2for1 days out.
There's a sneaky loophole to get 2for1 tickets for a massive range of London attractions (e.g. the Zoo & London Dungeon) through National Rail's Days Out Guide scheme.
The catch is you need that day's valid train ticket, yet as the saving can be up to £25, even if you're not using the train you can get a cheap single for £2ish and still qualify to save up to £25.
For example a one way ticket from a Central London station (e.g. Marylebone for Tussauds/London Zoo) is £1.90, but entry to Madame Tussaud's is £23 – a £21 saving. You can print as many vouchers as you like and currently offers are valid ‘til 31 May 2008. Check the individual offer pages for full T&Cs.
Non-Bank Holiday offers, for future reference
- 2for1 Roman outings.
The Telegraph Online is offering 2for1 entry at a number of Roman sites near Hadrian’s Wall. Simply click ‘n’ print to get your voucher. The offer’s valid from until July 13, 2008 and excludes event days and bank holiday weekends. Attractions include Hadrian’s Wall Country Bus, Corbrige Roman Town, Senhouse Museum, Segedunum Roman Fort and Tullie House Museum.
For more bargainous days out, read the full Pay Less For Going Out article.

You don't just get these 2 for 1 offers for Alton Towers etc. from Sky and Tetley Teas. TOTAL petrol stations give you vouchers for these at the moment if you spend more than £30 with them in one transaction. We were given a whole wad of those vouchers last week and immediately used one in Scarborough Sea Life Centre. The valid until date varies and is between August and November of this year.Reclaimed thanks to this site:
