Muso has teamed up with EMI Classics to offer ten copies of Stabat Mater, the major new work by Karl Jenkins.
The recording will be released to coincide with the world premiere performance on Saturday 15th March 2008 in Liverpool's Cathedral, performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, the EMO Choir of Helsinki, soloists Belinda Sykes and Jurgita Adamonyte, and conducted by the composer himself.
The Stabat Mater is a powerful hymn dating from the 13th century that meditates on the suffering of Mary during Christ's crucifixion. The traditional Latin text, believed to have been written by Jacopone da Todi has been used extensively in church liturgy since the 14th century and has been set to music by over 400 composers including Josquin de Pr!, Palestrina, Scarlatti, Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Haydn, Boccherini, Schubert, Rossini, Verdi, Szymanowski, Poulenc, Penderecki and Pärt.
Karl Jenkins has composed some of the best-loved and most successful music of recent years. Adiemus combined a classical base with ethnic vocal sounds, ethnic percussion and an invented language and earned 17 platinum or gold album awards. Requiem received instant chart success and has become a favourite with choirs around the world. His recent commissions include works for the Royal Ballet, Bryn Terfel, Leslie Garrett and Evelyn Glennie. For more information on Karl Jenkins visit www.karljenkins2008.com.
