I'd say 6% was a good deal for savers over 10 years.
4.8% net means that you should beat inflation comfortably.
Just imagine the effects on the economy if the UK housing market had to put up with equivalent average mortgage interest rates of 7.25%+ for the next decade.
And if the FSA was going to bring me to court for rumour-mongering about HBOS shares a couple of weeks ago I'd bring this deal into court as evidence that HBOS was desperate for savers cash.
