This month, WFI has a fabulous Roman holiday to be won. April’s lucky winner will be given the chance to enjoy not just a five-star, seven-night stay in the centre of the city, but also a range of exciting activities designed to provide a special taste of the Eternal City. The trip and all activities are courtesy of Expedia.co.uk, where you can get everything you need for a fantastic holiday, from flights and hotels to wine and olive oil tasting, theatre tickets and cookery courses.
The winner and guest will stay at the luxurious Hotel Splendide Royal (summithotels.com). Just off the exclusive Via Veneto, it is a small, opulent hotel occupying a 19th-century building facing Villa Borghese park; the Spanish Steps are just a ten-minute walk away, and the hotel is an excellent base for sightseeing. The hotel also boasts Mirabelle, a Michelin-starred restaurant in which the pair can enjoy a complimentary dinner alfresco, or in indoor elegance.
However, while the winner and guest may well wish to idle away time in such delightful accommodation, there are also some fabulous experiences to enjoy. The ‘Nectar of the Gods’ wine-tasting tour gives them an opportunity to expand their knowledge of Italian wines. They will amble through the vines of Frascati and enjoy a guided tasting of wine and olive oil from the Pallavicini estate.
The pair will spend an equally hands-on half-day on a pasta-making course. They will witness traditional techniques and prepare their own fresh egg pasta, under the guidance of an acclaimed Italian chef. The gastronomic delights will continue with a four-course dinner cruise along the Tiber, during which the winner and guest will be able to appreciate magnificent views – as well as sumptuous Italian cooking.
Understandably, visitors to Rome often wish to capture some of its sights – from the grandeur of the Coliseum to the beauty of the Trevi fountain, on film. This should be a pleasure for the pair, who, during a session with a National Geographic photographer, will learn to compose eye-catching pictures in this lovely setting. They can explore Rome’s surroundings with ease, as car-hire is included in the prize.
Question: Which park faces the Hotel Splendide Royal?
Answer: Villa Borghese Park
Good Luck
