Cheap car servicing

Options
I work in a main dealer and see the huge bills people pay for a car service and I believe I have found a way to cut the cost of a service significantly.

Firsty I think people need to understand what is covered on a service.

the main part of a servce is the inspection work and the filters and plugs.i'll call this a "straight service"

that is a basic full service. all the work found on the inspection is extra. ie brake pads, tyres, wiperblades ect. these arn't covered

sorry if you already know this but this has been put in simple terms incase some people dont understand.

I believe i what have found a with a "straight service" is that if instead of booking your car in for the service book it in for something called a VCR this is a vehicle condition report. this is a FREE report so you get you car looked over for nothing, then after you have had your car looked over for nothing look in your owners handbook (yes the thick booklet that you never read) and look what it needs for the service, its all there in black and white. and just book the car in for them parts to be replaced only. This way you have immediatly slashed the labour cost straight off of the inspection work.

the only downfall for this is it involves your input alittle (by reading the owners hand book)and you wont have your book stamped, but provided you keep the receipts and your copy of the vcr this will act as your service history.

This tip may only work a main dealers as they have to do VCRs as a part of the duty of care act. vcr is a term used for vauxhall other dealers may call it something else thats very simular.

I think this may be able to save upto £75-£175 of the bill.

thanks for reading.

P.s I havent tried this as I diagnose/repair my own car ;)
