DCC Is Designed To Give You A Choice

Options
some people say that they are not given a choice by using DCC, here is my say to the contrary.

As everyone knows, DCC is an individualized customer service tool that allows you to choose either to pay your purchase in local currency or in your home currency at ease while traveling abroad. DCC is meant to give you the additional payment option to make your trip more memorable by providing you the convenience and benefits that you are entitled to. For those who claimed that they were not given a choice for what currency they pay at a particular store, they blamed DCC service. However, is it fair to say that it is DCC that caused all the problems? Not so. It is the merchant who delivered DCC service created such poor DCC image. In fat, DCC itself is a victim for such claim. I cannot stress enough that you are given a choice when using DCC. I have seen many different situations that some people were delighted to accept to pay in their currency by using DCC. The other people changed their minds even after the transaction of their own currency processed, the merchants switched to the local currency. After all, it is the customers that both DCC service and merchants care about. Can you now say that you are not given a choice when using DCC service?

YES, I can. YES I can. YES I can.
If somebody was ripped-of with DCC there is no difference was it a merchant who did not offer a choice, or a local bank that supplies a service to a merchant or somerbody else.
What do you want to say? Are you so bad in mathematics that cannot divide price by 1.45 without help and want to pay somebody 3%+ for making this simple calculation for you?

What a strange post. Your only other post suggests you are American which is unusual on a UK based forum, but everybody is welcome.

Your post reads like a DCC brochure. This is NOT something which benefits customers.

Now merchants are being offered a slice of the profit too which will only increase those places telling customers they have no choice but to accept it. Here is one such example.

erm, dont wish to sound dumb but...I bought a gift online from the states but paid a fixed amount in sterling when it was processed incl customs. Normally the amount shows up in $ on my statement but once I entered my address it came up in £ on the merchant screen and on my statement. Is this DCC?

Looks like it - in its worst form when you are not offered a choice (as you should be). My recent experience was with buying online one-way EasyJet ticket from Germany to UK. However, in this instance I was offered a choice of currencies to pay and it was much better to pay in euros than in ££s.
Recently I brought together a lot of links regarding DCC in my post in hidden credit card commission in spain thread.

Like you said Grumbler, I didnt have a choice to change the currency which was annoying as I got over-charge by about £8 - £15 compared to paying in $ and taking advantage of the exchange rate on the day the amount was debited through my visa card. I also remember visasecure popping up for the first time and having to register for that. Wonder if they are linked ?

i regarded your question as a compliment since i never thought i could be that smart to invent something. i enjoyed the convenience that DCC provided during my trip in Italy, and that was my say. it is so ok people have different opions toward a certain issue.

Just out of interest are you from the USA or from the UK?

Secondly have you actually seen the currency conversions between paying by local currency and doing DCC?
