Thats the news today.

I wonder what price plan will replace these numbers, someone somewhere will want to earn cash from receiving a call.

confused .. surely they don't have the contracts for all these numbers - if they want to save people money , why not just make all 0870/ 0845 calls same cost as 01 numbers / inclusive on their various plansAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

It is replacing the numbers it uses for it call centres and helplines, not the numbers altogether, so this is no where near as big news as the Telegraph makes it sound...

It makes a caller irritated before they even get through
example
orange taking payments from our card even though we cacnelled BB 2 months ago..cue having to call (using saynoto0870 obviously) , and sitting on hold for 16 minutes now i was annoyed at calling AT ALL never mind if i had paid for that call
its a disgrace and someone needs shooting for ever dreaming them up0 -
If you want to read the full press release it's in our press release archive here.
We're scrapping charges for calling all of our consumer services and helpdesk numbers, Ninety Two percent of calls to BT are already free and we'll increase this to 99% by April the 1st by changing our six most used numbers to 0800 or 0808. The remaining 1% of numbers will follow in the months after that.
So soon after April 1st you won't have to pay a thing to call BT, we think that's something worth shouting about.

I'm not disagreeing that you get rid of call charges to phone your helplines is not good news.
I was just pointing out the Telegraph's headline was a bit misleading as it can imply that you were removing all of these numbers regardless of which company operated them.I have worked for 5 years as a Pension Administrator and then a further year in a non-administrator pension role. I am not (and never have been) an adviser. Do not take anything I say as advice, it is information given on the best of my knowledge.0 -
Not a problem, just wanted people to be clear on what we were actually doing.0
