Anybody tried Abroadtel regarding making call to mobiles from a landline as I am failing to be able to do this and there technical department is slow at answering my e-mails

I've had many problems with this phone company and having read many other's comments, this appears to be a scam company.

I have complained to OFCOM about it - I suggest you do too. They take the fee from dialling their number then keep you holding listening to bleeps and clicks, which are probably recordings anyway! OFCOM replied saying they have received many complaints about this company already and are investigating. Apparently we are entitled to a full refund of the call, even though some is charged by BT/your phone provider, AbroadTel must refund the whole fee, under the Sale of Goods Act.

Anyone thinking of using this company should proceed with caution.I have been reading a number of reports in the last day or so about no connections.

If you look in there FAQ they also say that BT charge a 5p connection charge which they dont.They also insist on referring to 0845 as a local rate no which it is not.

The other 'problem' with them is that, if you are using them to get cheap calls to UK mobiles, you have to replace the leading 0 with 0044.

Hard to get the family to remember this!

Thanks Victor-Delta, I have tried dialling 0044 + mobile number , but I get a recording sayiny they are trying to connect me, then they say the mobile number is busy, but its my mobile number and its next to and its not busy.

I've been trying to use these too and unable to get a cal through to anyone ? i get various messages, i.e the number you have called has not been recognised etc, to a flat dead line tone

Can anyone recomend another company for cheap calls from landline to mobiles in UK. I was using Dialwise 0844 428 4646 at 4p pm until I went on holiday 2 weeks ago. Now when I dial them I am getting message telling me to dial 0871 999 4545 which is charged at 10p per minute!
After reading this site today I have tried abroaddtel but have had some problems getting 5p per minute and taking into account the comments above about this company I am wondereing if they are worth using anyway.
Wouls be interested in any advice. Thanks

I am afraid there isnt anyone cheaper then 10p a minute at peak and evening times.Other then the not so good Abroadtel. As well as a number of 0871 indirectaccess providers,you can of course use 1899 at 10p a minute,plus 3p connection.At weekends they charge just 3p a minute.

I tried Abroadtel's service and it looks like it's a scam. I tried to call my mobile 3 times and twice I got a message saying that the call had not been answered and the third time the message said it was busy. As soon as my call to their access numebr was answered, Abroadtel start earning money from my call irrespective of whether I'm connected to number I'm trying to reach or not. Abroadtel would receive approx 3.2p per minute from my call which lasted about 4 minutes. This means they earned 12.8p for doing absolutely nothing. The cheapest advertised rate is not always the cheapest method of making a call.
