DCC, the acronym for dynamic currency conversion. it is a new customer service tool that looks after your personal needs by allowing you to pay in your home currency while travelling abroad. i was outrageous having seen the so-called one-sided comments on DCC.
here is one of my personal experiences that I’d like to share with you. Last year, I traveled to Europe. I used my Visa card to pay for a fur coat at a store in Italy. As soon as my card was swiped, the sales assistant asked me if I’d liked to pay for the purchase in dollars. Here, I would like to stress that as each valued customer either in a hotel, retail store or restaurant, we are given a choice to make our trips more enjoyable.
When I was shown the exchange rate and the converted amount in dollars, I automatically compared the price of the fur charged here with the price charged in US. I found out that it was relatively cheaper in that particular store. So I decided to buy one more fur coat for my mum since it was value for money with a unique style. If I weren’t offered DCC service, I wouldn’t have made better- informed decisions economically. In the past, while traveling abroad, I never had any clue what the exchange rate was for each item I purchased. I would always have to wait until the bill sent to me. It usually took me a month to dread how much I would be billed in dollars. With the advent of DCC, I am offered a personalized pricing service to pay in my home currency at the point of sale in real time. It kind of eased my mind for how much I was actually charged for whatever I spent overseas.
we should all promote something that makes our trips more convenient, personalized and enjoyable just like what DCC does to us.

When I started reading your post I thought it is ironic, but now I see you are serious. I think very few people here will agree with you that DCC is good. Most of UK credit and debit cards charge you 2.75% currency conversion fee if you pay abroad in local currency. Local banks charge you at least 3% when you chose to pay in ££s abroad (DCC).
Of course, 0.25% is not a huge price for convenience. However, most of experienced travellers here use Nationwide (and some other) cards that don’t charge currency conversion fee. For those who have NW cards 3%+ is too high price for somebody just to make a simple calculation for them. They avoid DCC as a plague.
Something interesting on nationwide.co.uk
