Maya wants to know the intricacies about how her parents met and fell in love, but as Will retells his past, what effect will this have on his future?
Will’s story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin to work on the presidential campaign. Will relives his past to Maya, as an idealistic young man learning the particulars of big city politics and recollects the history of his romantic relationships with three colourful women. In Will's unadulterated version of his story he also changes the names of the three women so Maya has to guess who her father finally married. Is her mother Will’s college sweetheart, the dependable girl next-door Emily (Elizabeth Banks)? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante April (Isla Fisher)? Or did the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz) steal his heart? Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle and as Will reflects, it is Maya who helps him understand that it’s never too late to turn back....
