It’s official: wearing glasses now makes you cool for school, with more than eight in ten children saying that characters like Harry Potter and Dr Who, and celebrities like Johnny Depp, have made wearing specs in the playground a positive style statement.
Eye expert Dr Susan Blakeney from The College of Optometrists, thinks this is great news because looking great is just one benefit of wearing glasses. She says: “It may have been a slow process, but now glasses are truly a fashion statement and not only can they help you see better, they make you look good too. Can you imagine Harry Potter doing magic without his round glasses or Dr Who travelling through time and space without his? Eyes are amazing – in your lifetime, they will bring you nearly 24 million images of the world around you!
To celebrate the most important of the five senses, First News and The College of Optometrists are running a photography competition to find your favourite view. Simply take a shot of the view you love most – whether it’s a place, a building or even your best friend’s smile! Send it to First News at the usual address (you must be over eight years old to enter)
The winning photographer will win four tickets for a hot-air balloon ride, and the best photographs will be displayed in the College of Optometrists museum in London.
