A while ago I placed a post extolling the virtues of the Bernadine Lawrence book "Feed Your Family For £5 A Day" which I still love, but I have recently purchased another invaluable book called the Victory Cookbook by Marguerite Patten. Basically it is, as the name suggests based on the food/recipes eaten during and after the war but again I'm finding it extremely helpful and my food bills are now down to less than £20 a week for two people (and this is for ALL our food-including packed lunches!) I know others on this site still manage to keep costs down lower than that but I'm happy and know it will come down more as I start to reap what I've sown on my allotment.
Sadly I still haven't found a copy of The Paupers Cookbook but will continue looking. From someone who hated cooking it has now become a total passion!

Yep that's how I got both books mentioned here. Hi thanks for that it prompted me to have a look on t'net for war time recipes. You can get some for free here http://www.scotlandswar.info/files/pdf/pr/recipes.pdf but it is a PDF so you will have to have Adobe acrobat reader but that is available free anyway.
I'm 99% certain I had the Pauper's Cookbook (Jocasta Innes?) and it wasn't very money saving as most of the things that were cheap then are now quite expensive and vice versa. HTH.
