Win a Tiger Beer Asian Hamper!

Thursday 7h February 2008 is the start of Chinese New Year and Tiger Beer has launched a comprehensive guide (available at www.tigerbeer.co.uk/cny) to showcase the traditions that lie behind this important occasion and help people celebrate the New Year in true Tiger style.

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival (Chun Jie) lasts for 15 days and is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar. It is celebrated by millions of people worldwide and each year is named after an animal with a symbolic meaning with 2008 being the year of the rat.

Legend has it that the celebrations we follow today are because of an ancient man-eating beast called Nian. The guide from Tiger Beer features everything you need to know about Chinese New Year, from the belief that not taking a bath brings good luck, to details of New Year celebrations taking place around the country.

Steven Greaves, marketing manager, Tiger Beer UK Ltd, said: “After the success of our 2007 guide, we’re delighted to be launching our new 2008 guide, once again helping people discover the rich history of the festival and the superstitions and traditions that are behind this important occasion. With so many celebrations taking place across the UK, we’d like everyone to get involved so they can enjoy all that the festival has to offer.”

Outside of the UK, people travel to the village of Lam Tseun, in Hong Kong, to make a wish at the ancient Banyan Tree outside the temple. The wishes are written on pieces of paper, tied to oranges and thrown into the tree. If the oranges stick it’s believed that the wishes can come true.

To coincide with Chinese New Year Tiger Beer has also devised an online game. Simply click on the website, www.tigerwishingtree.co.uk, pick your wish, aim at the tree and if your wish sticks you will be entered into the prize draw to win an iPhone. The higher your wish lands, the more chance you have of winning. For every successful wish, Tiger Beer is giving 10p to Save China’s Tiger.
