Vodafone Internet charges

Hi and sorry if this is in the wrong section..
This is my story, About 18months ago i moved house, where i lived had no internet access for the time, so i (stupidly i now know) used my mobile phone as a modem, i would guess for a max of about 2hours, What i didnt know is that vodafone charge 2.49per Mb downloaded, in this time i downloaded a few cd's of itunes, unknowingly costing myself £652 quid!!
I know that i should of checked first & i did expect the service to be dear (£80-100) MAX but i never thought in all my life it would be £652.
Anyway i rang vodafone up when i got my bill and explained to them the situation, unfortinatly for me i got probally the rudest person in the world, She was basicly so rude to me i told them to stuff there phone up there $$$, Maybe looking back it wasnt the best thing to do but i had been a good paying customer to vodafone for over 5 years previous never missed a payment and it was always £50+ a month. And i felt badly insulted
So 18 months later i have a bad credit file
and today i decided to fix this, so i rang vodafone and explained to them etc, They told me they have passed the debt onto a company called woodcot or something? I said So how can i go about discussing this bill with you and they basicly said they wont now as its in the hands of woodcot!
Basicly what should i do? I really dont want to pay this bill as its a total RIP off, What should i do about this now? Will the debt company come knocking soon? I still want to take the matter up with vodafone somehow, id be willing to pay some of the bill as it was my fault, but in my eyes they do not make it clear at all!
Sorry this is so long
little bit angry rite now

Do you have the original terms of the agreement where it states the price for internet usage?Debt free in 2010
£6551.35 paid so far.
This WILL be my debt free year! :T0 -
It seems you aren't the first person this has happened to sadly. Someone came to the board last week I think with a similar situation and the only way to sort it was to make an arrangement. There was a story a couple of weeks ago about a chap who has rung up something like £32,000 by doing the same thing.
Have you got a copy of your credit file to see what it says on there as to the status of the debt?"Stay Wonky":D

Hi, thanks for replying so fast! I dont have any paperwork at all left to be honest, I have heard a few things on tv and few family where this has happened to people... I did a credit check on the credit expert site thing where you get a free credit check, It came up a 8 with vodafone & defaulted payment, i didnt want it to come to this but to be honest i totally forgot about this problem for over a year because i never got 1 letter from vodafone!,
Should i fight this one? or just pay it weekly? Id rather not pay it because to be honest i feel RIPPED off big time, how they can charge that much for data i dont know.
If you would like anymore info on my case tell me what you need and i will try to gather as much info as i can, Cheers james0 -
One thing I can think of is that if you have any of the original paperwork at all, scrutinise it and see where these charges were stated. If they were hidden away in small print, appeal to Vodafone's good nature as an existing customer with a good payment history and see if you'll get money off as a gesture of good will. (They're quite keen on customer retention)
Failing that, threats of reporting to the regulatory body (OFCOM is it?) tend to make them rethink the 'sorry but go away I need to take 10 calls this hour and you're impeding my progress' strategy.Debt free in 2010

I believe Vodaphone tend to use a collection agency called Westcot. Have you not received any paperwork from them in regards to the debt?

Hi James,
It’s unfortunate that you’re in this situation and I understand why you want to get it sorted quickly.
You say that you willingly used the internet for browsing and download and you admit that you didn’t check the data charging cost before you used the internet. These charges won’t be stated in your terms of contract as they vary from price plan to price plan; they are however available from our website and from our Customer Service agents who you can contact by dialling 191 from your mobile.
We wouldn’t offer any reduction to the bill as you’ve been charged according to what you used and by your own admittance you did use it.
Vodafone do use a debt collection agency called Wescot to chase for payment on our behalf. As you have not yet heard from them I’d recommend you give them a call and make arrangements to pay the bill. You can contact them on 01482 590 500.
Once you have contacted Wescot you’ll be able to discuss the payment options available to you. I hope you’re able to get this sorted out.
Hopefully Useful

Can the above poster do that without actually disclosing they work for Vodafone in their signature, I wonder if Vodafone know about this, I'm going to phone them and tell them just in case they don't.
