Cavity Insulation

Can anyone advise whether cavity insulation (and which type) is worth the investment or just another scam? There are so many companies offering government grant subsidies, consequently I'm very sceptical but deep down think it could just be worth the investment particularly if it's subsidised.
Any assistance will be appreciated, -and not just by me perhaps!
P.S. I have a 3 bed semi with single story side extension

I would advise you to contact your local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre - details from entering your postcode via The Energy Saving Trust. They offer unbiassed advice, and may have discount schemes. They will also look at your loft insulation. The payback period is usually good, and if you sell you house from 2007, you will need an Energy Certificate. Insulation will help improve the figure on that certificate.

It cost me £35.00 to have the wall cavity insulated.......no problems and the bonus is that at this time of the year when we get these hot summer days the inner wall stays cool and therefore so does the house.

Hi If you are over 60 then there is a possibility that you can get it free. I have just had a surveyor round and I am having it done free. It depends on your post code though. Annie0

Depends if your cavity is big enough? it has to be a certain size before they do it.
Normally a two inch cavity is standard on new builds.
The brick outside is cold and cools the cavity inside, if you get insualtion? then the cavity holds the heat and keeps the inner wall warm.
Keeps the heat in and your house warm.
Its not a scam, my house is bloody too hot since hey did itI'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
Bear in mind that cavity wall insulation is not suitable in all areas. In some coastal areas you should not install it due to the increased moisture content in the air. Your local authority would be the best people to speak to.0

Look into grants for it, as oap's and families qualify for help.
Ours was done a few years ago, and it's made a huge difference to us in the winter, we're dead pleased. All we need to do now is update the draught excluders and all will be perfect.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
i have been told they cannot put the insulation into my house because there are concrete columns in the cavity ,anyone know if this is true ,also the cavity is about 4 inches thickh0
