Renting Query - 1st Time

My partner and I are looking into moving out and renting in a few months time. We are currently saving for the deposit and advanced rent plus other costs such as furniture etc..

The area we have looked costs between £400 - £550 per month.

Can someone give us an idea of the cost of bills so we can go into this fully prepared?

Thanks!

    Hi,

Its hard to say without knowing whether you will have electric, gas or oil. Also the water could be rated or a fixed bill.
The other bills will be telly licence, contents insurance. Neither of these will be very much (£10? a month).
The utilities will depend on how much you use. We pay £40 a month water but we use quite a lot having 2 young children. We have economy 7 electric which is about the most expensive and we pay £90 a month.
Coucil tax will be a large outgoing at least £100 a month
Others are telephone bill, broadband, sky/cable so these will only be as expensive as you want them to be.
It soon adds up! Why don't you sit down with your parents or friends in your area who have their own house, they will have more of an idea on what your bills will come to.
    Good luck x
  • Hi Lucy :)

    Each bill is per month:-
    £60 Internet/phone
    £11.50 tv license
    £35 water
    £105 council tax

we feel are gas/electric are very low compared to others, but we are very "anal" about unplugging items, energy saving lighbulbs in all rooms, and use gas heating very rarely.
    £30 gas
    £20 electric

Ontop of these bills you might have
    mobile phone
    food
    car insurance
    personal loans
    sky tv
    student loans
    medical insurance
    home insurance
    car loan

  • If you want to keep costs down, you don't have to have a landline or internet. I didn't at my old flat and coped fine, it was nice to have a sanctuary to come home to where I just relaxed.

I thought I was going mad then!

14 threads on the same topic in 9 months.

Girl, just move out of home. You're earning enough to pay both rent and bills, especially if you are splitting them with someone else. You learn by experience, obviously not by asking the same quetion over and over again. Life is too short :o

And you're likely to stay there if you don't do something instead of asking the same questions on here time and again.;)
