Abby - SBT card?

In the MSE SBT section, the Abby cc is listed as a SBT card but I see no mention of paying off overdrafts. It only mentions transferring balances from other cards.
So is it an SBT card or not?

    I'm not familiar with the Abbey card, although I have a Virgin card from the same MBNA stable.

    A quick browse of the Abbey card summary box shows that it appears to have the "same" features as my Virgin card.

    When I did my SBT with Virgin I requested it via a telephone call. Maybe it's best to ring Abbey to ask if you can "transfer an overdraft from your current account". The telephone number is 0800 389 9905.

    I see from the Abbey summary box that, like Virgin, they *may* charge 2% (max £35) for any balance transfers done. I also see that they *will* charge 2% (max £35) for credit card cheques. Both options are 0% for 9 months so, as a last resort, you could use a credit card cheque to "pay yourself" at a cost of £35 max. The minimum monthly payment is £5, but your first payment will include the £35 (max) BT fee.

    Finally, why Abbey? Why not Virgin? Both myself and Mrs YB have Virgin cards (SBT'd to 95% ;)) and, if you get a "clued up" MBNA customer services assistant, they will waive the £35 BT fee (as they're supposed to do for the full 9 months on Virgin cards anyway)

    I can't use Virgin as I already have a Virgin card and have fully utilised it's 0% 9 month deal with a free mp3 player thrown in offer. Basically I am now interested in the Abbey because I have used and abused all the other SBT cards out there now and unless I know for definite that there are no fees charged I don't want to use any of my current cards as a mule. This means I will have to wait until my Egg card anniversary BT runs out in 4 months time before I can use an introductory BT again unless the card is an SBT card.
    I will take your advice and call Abbey about this(in fact I think I better email so that I can get it in writing).

    If you already have a Virgin card, or have closed one within the last 6 months or so, I don't think you'll be accepted for the Abbey card.

    Both cards are part of the MBNA stable, and MSE's on this board have posted regularly about being declined for this very reason.

    I think you would "waste" a credit search, possibly hindering future card applications, if you apply for the Abbey card. Just my opinion though.

    Regarding the telephone call, the call centre staff may not be aware of the policy of refusing existing MBNA customers for new cards and may give you false information. I believe they only pick it up when they run your details through their "systems".

    Good luck in whatever you do.

    Edit: What about the Egg Blue as a "mule"? Making a simultaneous application for this and any other card could be an alternative for you.

    MBNA used to be very flexible in letting customers have more than one of their cards - 3 was not uncommon. I personally had 2. However, it does appear that they have tightened up on this significantly and are reluctant to give cards to existing borrowers. However, my personal experience of applying for the Virgin card contradicts one aspect of what YB has said. As I said, I had 2 MBNA card which I closed in May this year. I have just been accepted for a Virgin (MBNA) card with a 9 months 0% offer, so clearly it is not necessary to wait 6 months before applying for another one of their cards.

    I'd be interested in other experiences of this to see if there is a pattern which we could establish.

    they are told about it so if you mention it, it should ring bells with them.

    if you dont mention it though i think it unlikely that they will think to ask you that before proceeding.
