AFAIK they are the real deal and since they are quite new, probably digital as well. This means they will never run out of film.
Did you happen to glance at your clock and note the time. Might form part of a defence if they keep records as to when the limit is changed.
You should also take a look at www.pepipoo.com as someone there is bound to have raised the same issues.

I'm pretty sure there is a delay of about a minute between the speed changing and the cameras becoming operational to prevent issues such as yours.

Delay of 1 minute between speed change and camera enabling.

I had a similar event. It changed to say 20 in my lane for no reason, there was no queue ahead. I swerved into the next lane which said 40 as did the car behind me so I would be in the next lane for the camera. If I slowed from 40 to 20 that quick I'd probably have caused an accident. I was just annoyed that it said 20 and there was absolutely no reason for it to be 20.

I like the idea of those cameras and system in general, but the silly speed limits don't make any sense. I was probably half-way between the lanes at the camera, and moved back in when I saw it was indeed 40 again in the lane I was in previously.

Anyway it's been a long while and I haven't heard anything now, so I presume they are sensible with these sort of things like !!!!!! suggests. Suppose I know now for future reference when the speed limit changes so fast and unexpectedly.
