Death by Black Hole
by Neil deGrasse Tyson
It's difficult to write an interesting popular science book while not 'dumbing down' to a 5 year old level, or requiring a degree in physics and engineering to understand past chapter one.
'Death by Black Hole,' manages quite well. While some might find the sense of humour a bit too 'cute', Tyson is writing for those who are new to science, cosmology and astronomy. It's reasonable to assume that a reader with little previous experience in the subject matter may appreciate a bit of fun during discussions of electron orbitals or alpha particles.
The subject matter of Tysons book is not just black holes. Each chapter is a short essay on a particular subject generally within the realm of physics or astronomy.
Certainly, this book may not be the perfect choice for everyone to take to the beach during a holiday - but it's guaranteed to delight, amuse and stretch perspectives just enough so that it's not put aside.
A great book for anyone who wants to explore physics and astronomy.
