BT have a product called Contact Plus its an incoming only calls service,it costs only £9.25 a quarter including vat.
Visit https://www.bt.com/customerservices/downloads/in_contact_plus.pdf
As well as recieving calls you can phone. Emergency Numbers 999/112 and you can phone Freephone 0500/0800/0808 Numbers.
What could stop you switching to this service and using a 1899/18866 0808 access no,or similar to make your outgoing calls.
I appreciate the calls would be charged at a different rate to the normal 1899/18866 charges. But there would be considerable savings on your line rental, Eg £9.25 instead of £31.5O a quarter, a saving of £22.25 a quarter on D/D prices.

I wonder if it’ll be a way of reducing installation costs as well? They say they’ll install a line for £9.99 (unless “extensive new construction work is required to connect you to the network”) whereas, for a house which hasn’t previously had a BT line (e.g. a newly built house), their standard charge is £74.99.
It looks to me like taking the £9.99 option and then deciding to upgrade after a couple of weeks might be a money-saver!Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -

It doesn't appear to be available if you have an ADSL line, so I imagine that if you have broadband you can't switch to it.
Seems a good deal though if, like me you use 18866 for calls.0 -

You are not eligible if your household has:• Another residential line at the same or different premises
• A telephone service provided by another operator, either directly or indirectly at the
same or different premises
• A mobile telephone service
• A payphone line
• An Integrated Digital Services Network (ISDN) line
• An Asymmetric Digital Subscriber (ADSL) line

bbb_uk wrote:You can not use indirect access codes with In Contact Plus and Light User Scheme. Now using Call18866/1899 freephone access number may be allowed (unless its already blocked) but as soon as BT notice the increase in traffic to these specific freephone numbers then they would block them. OfCOM agreed with BT that using alternative call providers on these two tariffs isn't allowed. In fact BT have wanted to scrap these tariffs because its a loss making to them but OfCOM have said they can't which is why it is difficult on BT's website to find information about them.
I knew you couldnt use the short code? numbers but i thought 0800/0808/0500 might be away round. Thanks for your useful info.PF.0 -
