Does anyone cut their partner's hair?

My OH seems to think it would be a good idea to invest in some hair clippers so I can give him his regular trim. I'm up for this but a bit scared! He has a simple style - no.3 shaver at sides I think then longer at the top but 'choppy on top'.
Does anyone do this? I have visions of him looking like he's just joined the army... what if it goes wrong and i have to shave it all off!
Also, any best buys for home grooming kits?

My sister cuts her other half's hair for years.I am sure she used a clipper.
They do have the occasional row afterwards but he's let her cut his hair for years now.0 -
I have cut my husbands hair for the past 6 years - it is really easy with the clippers and the style you describe should be easy to do once you get over your initial nerves! I zoom through it now - probably cut his hair in about 8 minutes including neck shave!!! Why pay out for it! Now is the best time to grab a deal on clippers!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes

wahl is a good make,
do kids & oh does his own now!!
just do shorter comb for the sides and
longer on top
we use cordless one now,easier!0 -
I cut my DH's hair whenever it gets halfway towards his waist - just go straight across at the bottom. Turns out okay.0

It's easy, I do it to myself, just need someone to finish the trim on the rear. You don't even need a mirror after the first few goes. I like a number 2 (!) but you might like to start with say a 4 and work down if you are not brave enough.
It's certainly an MSE thing to do.
Two tips. One first off buy some cheap clippers (my first ones we less than £10 from ASDA with 4 or 5 length attachements) to see how he gets on. If all is well, the blades will eventually dull and they will pull. Time to invest in some ceramic bladed clippers then.0 -
I have Wahl clippers and have cut my husbands hair for years and years.. used to do my sons too before he got too trendy for the likes of me cutting his hair... but OH has saved loads of money over the years and it always looks fine...#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I've cut my husbands hair for the last 4 years, also used to do my previous b/f and my now hubbies best mate. We use the Nicky Clarke cordless trimmers (about £20), they have ceramic edges and they've lasted for for 3 years."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0

DH does his own (buzzcut all over) - then I go and check it for stray long hairs and also do the back of his neck and his sideburns. I used to do it all myself but it's just as easy for him and it saves me the bother.
I've also cut DD's hair once or twice into a bob, but she's 4 now and I wouldn't really feel confident enough doing it anymore. As for DS, he's 2 with an enormous head and I think a buzzcut would look ridiculous, but his hair is so odd that I really didn't know what to do with it, so he recently went for his first haircut to the barber who cuts my father's [STRIKE]combover
[/STRIKE] hair and it looks great and was only a couple of quid.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I do OH's hair, have done for ages.
Very easy and no need to panic as you can always go for the shaved look if it does go wrong!
Cordless are great as no wire to get in the way, make sure they are well charged though so they last for a full cut.0 -
Have cut OH's hair for years now-using Remington clippers (about 18 quid then i think). Mind you there is less of it to start with than there used to be- .
Do a no 1 at sides and a 2 over the rest (his mum said he looked like phil mitchell the first time she saw it-lol)-but i think it looks better shorter when it is "thinning",
Only ever made mistake once where i forgot to put one of the "length" guides on:eek:    -luckily it was at the back and he never knew about it!!!!:DOf all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....
