Using debit card abroad

Be very aware. I thought I was......
I got my nationwide flexaccount debit card for making payments abroad. Arrived in Salou a week ago, from the airport straight to the holiday rental agency (Universal Holiday Centre) place to pick up keys and pay rest of rent, while taxi was waiting outside
All very charming, they whizzed my card thru the machine, I signed and hey presto off we went to holiday apartment within a few minutes.
A few days later checking my debit card receipts, was horrified to find that I had paid the rental in Sterling. According to the slip, I had been offered a choice of currencies with which to pay the rent and I had agreed to pay in sterling at their conversion rate which was 1.44. My Nationwide card was converting at 1.49 had I paid in Euros.
Needless to say at no point had I been verbally offered a choice of currencies by the lady doing the transactions, and if I had, I would have chosen Euros.
Watch Out !!!

May I suggest you also contact Visa about the situation?"An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
I mentioned in my email that I would contact Visa because of their breach of the rules. Yet to hear anything though.......0
