    i went there last month
agadir itself is an expensive ghost town,
we stayed at a hotel tivoli on half board basis
i classed it as *ok* there was no fridge in the room :(
If you wanna buy food , drinks etc you can go to a shopping centre call marjane which is miles cheaper than anywhere else.
restaurants in agadir were very expensive.
if you wanna go shopping go on a shared taxi or bus to inezgane which is about 3-4 miles away from agadir and there is a market there which is miles cheaper than agadir.
we also went to marrakesh, thomas cook wanted 180 quid (LOL) for the 2 of us for a 1 night stay, which is a con.
we booked ibis marrakesh which is rght next to the train station. about 20 quid a night, we stayed for 2 nights.
we went on a bus called supratours which cost 20 quid return for both of us so total cost was 60 quid for 2 nights.

Was there last November - a bit busier then. Didn't think eating was expensive (makes up for it with drinks prices though - would expect to pay around about same as Europe for meals plus drinks). Stayed at the Agadir Beach Club - well recommended and even slightly cheaper on food/drink than the outside world.

Had a 4 day safari from Agadir to Essouira then Marrakesh using public buses and looking round when I arrived (never had to kip on a bench although I did have a spell of the projectile vomits in Essouira - take anti-squits tablets with you). As Khizman said, avoid the organised tours and have a go yourself, much cheaper and more fun.

Agaidir is divided into 3 areas - tourist stuff near the beach, residential area (including bus station) at the opposite end and 'chancer's gulch' in the middle. Believe me, you will get hassled and ripped off (in a very small way) - you just get to the point where you can't be arsed reminding them you'd quite like your change.. Doesn't happen as much in the tourist area and hardly ever in the residential area (the locals waiting at the bus station were very chatty and helpful). Note that prices in the residential area are normally lower than the tourist/gulch areas.

If you want to stop and have a chat, offer them a ciggie - goes a long way. And brush up on your French - comes in quite useful if you stray from the tourist areas. There is a reasonably relaxed attitude to booze with a couple of good supermarkets and off-licenses. You can tell whose been buying what - the booze is wrapped in newspaper then packed in black plaggy bags, food/other stuff in white/semi see-though bags... Generally availble local brew is Flag (bottled) - had to practice a lot, but eventually got the hang of it.!

I found the Footprint Guide to Morroco useful for places to go and hotel ratings (although it's based on back-packing so you may want to step up from the 'basic' category).

Good site for bus travel is http://www.triotours.com/faq/ma/travel-around-bus.htm

Anyway, hope you enjoy it - definitely different to the Canaries.!
