I know alot of people are anti speed dectector detectors, but I think these things will reduce speeds in areas where clearly reduced speeds are needed.
Rather ironically the more fines there are the less the speed cameras are working.

I thought these things were now illegal though?

This is just a box with an internal list of fixed speed camera locations. It then uses GPS to tell where you are and warn you if you are nearing one of the cameras in it's list.
The subscription is to keep this list up-to-date.
It is not a Radar detector! So won't warn you of mobile, speed guns, etc.
Save the money and get a sat nav system with fixed speed cameras locations, like the new TomTom's.

I think fixed location camera notifiyers are fine as they only let you know theres one there rather than a radar detecter that actually lets you know that its working or not, i think the goverment are have been trying to get the radar/laser detecters banned again.

Ironically, I noticed these on sale today in Woolworths in STORNOWAY...
(That'll be on the Isle of Lewis for those who don't know!)
Number of speed cameras on databse in Western Isles (Outer Hebrides) = NIL
Nearest fixed speed camera = 3 hour ferry journey + 3 hour drive away!!!
Usefulness to the local population = LIMITED!!!!
IF anyone really wants one of these and can't get one locally, I should be able to send at cost + PayPal fee + postage if anyone wants one, as I very much doubt they will be selling like hot cakes here!!!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
These are not actually a bargain in the normal sense of the word. These are full priced items, ie selling at the rrp, though as of yet I haven't seen them anywhere else for less!
I wouldn't be surprised if maplin don't have them soon (if they don't already and you can always get discount there following the usual methods).
I'm actually looking for something suitable for a motorbike, and will probably opt for the road angel, but still waiting at present.
From what I can tell these are probably useful, but not as useful as the more expensive models such as the snooper or road angel variety. I did look into it a little while ago, but they seem very limited, (3 leds - green amber red) whereas road angel for example gives a heck of a lot of information - (plus a radar detector I believe - which may or may not become illegal - I'm not sure about overseas at present in the UK the gps models are perfectly legal).
Final thing to watch out for is the cost of renewing a subscription (at least with a the original road angel after a one off payment of £100 that was a lifetime subscription).
Finally just to clarify I'm not sponsered by road angel or snooper! There is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -
You mean like this...

With Maplin vouchers and free postage, it's actually cheaper at maplin!0
