I need some help here
I used to be a named driver on my wife's policy for the last 6 years, now we are getting divorced and I will need to get myself coverd (no comp).
I spoke to the insurer Direct Line and they told me I will need to start a complete new policy with 0 no claim in my name, although I was the main driver in the last 6 years. Do you know of any company that take in to account the fact that you are an experienced driver with 17 years of motoring under your belt? Direct Line quoted me about 100% more on top of what I used to pay when I was the named driver as now I don't have any no claims!!

My hubby was in this position a few years ago and he did find a company willing to give him two years no claims as he had regularly been driving my car. For the life of me I cannot remember who they are but will have a rummage later and see if I can find any mention of them in my old accounts.

Hopefully if you shop around, you will find someone to do the same. It may well turn out though that you will still be better off with Direct Line or someone similar as my husband has since changed insurer because they were not competitive on renewal.

Hi - try quinn-direct.com or confused.com.Both sites allow a worthwhile discount for being a named driver on another policy and ask specific questions about your claim free driving with this in mind. Also try quotelinedirect.

My OH was in this postion a few years ago; his car was insured in his (ex) wife's name with him as a named driver. He wrote to the insurance company and asked them for a letter confirming that he had been a named driver on a policy that hadn't been claimed on.

He then sent the letter to new insurance company (Direct Line) and they gave him the 3 years NCD. Also, if you have your home insurance with Direct Line, you can get a 10% discount on motor policy.

I've been with Direct Line for years (I do always shop around but they always come back with best price) and when they send me renewal quote; i go online and enter my details as if it is for a new quote - it's usually about £30 cheaper than renewal price. I then phone them up and get it for the cheaper price, plus a 10% discount.

I hope the above reads ok and isn't too confusing.....
