IT recycling

Options
Hi there,
I work for a charity helping Teenagers, currently our IT consists of seven computers which are of varying eras, and so have different capabilities, they are not networked, and they struggle to manage the tasks required. operating systems are are anything from Win95 to 2K.

Is there anyone out there with a company who are upgrading and disposing of your old machines which could be donated to replace our old ones.

:A

Mosey on over to the Small Biz and Charity Organisers board and see if the stickies at the top are any help. It could be worth finding your local Circuit Rider as well to give you some advice. And using FunderFinder might identify grants you could apply for. Links for all those over there!

    Good luck!

You have to be a BIT wary with freecycle, I'm sure I've seen somewhere that there's a scam whereby someone posts eg a laptop or really good computer, then when someone says "yes please!" there is mysteriously a fault which the donor will get fixed if you pay them, just send your cheque to ...

Plus if the OP wants a working network, he either needs a very good techie with time on their hands, or to start from scratch with new kit of compatible specs! Which is where the grants come in handy!

  • Keep your ears open for news about businesses downsizing or merging. Talk to your newspaper business editor about this, who if you are lucky might mention the need in the paper.

I made a few phone calls early this year and was offered our choice of 30 forklift trucks at a soon to be closed factory nearby.
