Everlasting (well, knitted!) christmas paper chains

I was browsing in a Cath Kidston shop over the weekend, and they had decorated the store with the most gorgeous knitted paper chains. I've no idea if they were for sale or not (they'd probably be quite expensive anyway) but I thought it was such a brilliant idea that it inspired me to rush home and dig out my knitting needles and some scraps of wool to start making some of my own. I reckon if I knit 3 or 4 links a day, I might have enough for this year!
I tried to google up a picture to show you the sort of thing I mean, and came up with only one hit - a blog where someone has already made some (plus there are directions for making them):
http://www.simplyknitting.co.uk/resources/simplyknitting/blogpattern2.pdf
I'm using size 4.5mm needles and cheap yarn (from the 99p shop) plus various leftovers in shades of green, red, yellow and brown. I cast on 8 stitches and do one row K, one row P until it's about 8 inches or so - it takes me about half an hour to do one, but I'm not a very accomplished knitter! I've made a dozen so far
)
I thought it seemed a good way to recycle old wool, or just to have something a bit different (and a bit eco-friendly) for Christmas decorations so I thought I'd share it

I'm on my lunch break from work, and I'm knitting another link right now in glittery black eyelash wool!
I'm no great shakes as a knitter, so it's really exciting to be able to make something which knits up so quickly! (I may become addicted to this)0 -
What a great idea....CJ could you post a piccie when you've finished as I think its going to look really good in more christmasy colours.
Sure it will be a hit.0 -

I think these are a fab idea:T Not only do these make great re-usable decorations with a personal touch, you could give them as alternative house warming or wedding presents to the couple who have everything! Easy to use up little scraps of wool, would be fab in Xmas colours or fancy wools but works in any colours, and nice & easy for children (or adults!) who are interested in leaning to knit;)
I will look out for Xmasy yarns in the after Christmas sales to do this for next year I think!Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0
